Progressive Shores

Progressive Shores is the name of my weekly radio show on the Aural Moon on-line progressive rock radio station (http://www.auralmoon.com). I started doing the show in April 2003, and it broadcasts every Thursday from 9-11 PM Eastern time. I do the show live in that time slot, so when you tune in you get everything on the fly, warts and all. I screw up sometimes, but I find it more fun this way so that's how I do it. Each show is also rebroadcast on Friday at 3 PM Eastern time, which is convenient for people who listen at work or for those who live in Europe (it will broadcast around 9 or 10 PM local time there).

The idea behind the show is to showcase the music of different countries; at least, the progressive rock, psychedelic, jazz, folk, and other kinds of creative music that Aural Moon listeners might enjoy. I chose this theme for the show for two reasons; first, it's fun to play a bunch of music from a particular scene and talk about the inter-relations, the people who played with multiple bands, the collaborations and rivalries, and trace the evolution of the movement over time in a particular country. Second, a lot of people only associate bands like Yes, Genesis, ELP, King Crimson, and so on with "progressive rock." If they are aware of newer bands, it tends to be similarly anglo-centric groups such as Spock's Beard, Dream Theater, or bands from other countries who sound anglo-centric, such as the Flower Kings. I'm hoping to expose people with that background to the way that people in other countries did things, to better show the full array of diversity that the genre has to offer.

You can view past playlists, program scheduling (upcoming live shows as well as repeating old shows), and the message forum by clicking on other links on this site. In particular I encourage anyone who tunes in to post to the message forum and let me know what you think about the show and the music you're hearing. I like to turn people on to new sounds, so if there are particular bands you would like to hear or countries you would like to see spotlighted, that's the place to ask.

That pretty much covers things. Hope you can tune in. Special thanks to Mike Pr33t for designing the swank logo.
